At The International Learner, we guide US-based students toward their international degree and help ensure the best outcomes for a global education. Andrea Patrick started the International Learner to make sense of all the options abroad and she is on a mission to introduce new generations of American students to international learning.


  • Links each student with the most relevant program abroad based on deep professional knowledge and experience visiting over 40 campuses on six continents, gaining first hand knowledge about academic programs and student life, while building connections with admissions teams and faculty.
  • Maintains a rich network of collaborators, affiliates, and international officers across the world to offer essay advice, insight on university admissions strategies, access to faculty, and support with everything from housing to visas. 
  • Led study abroad programs for a large US research university and was Director of Student Services for a major US study abroad provider, sending thousands of students to universities in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America.
  • Worked in 20 countries and lived in Moscow, Amsterdam, and Cape Town 
  • The right education for the role: Master’s in International Education from George Washington University and an MBA from the University of Cape Town, South Africa. 
  • Member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA), 2025 graduate of the IECA Summer Training Institute

  • Her own journey started as an undergraduate at Georgetown, with inspiration from her brave international classmates who chose to travel thousands of miles from their homes in Peru, France, and Japan to attend college.
  • Over time, she has witnessed the power of international education to unlock determination, creativity, resilience, and opportunity for students and their communities.
  • She’s worked in international education and development for over 35 years, doing everything from student recruitment and university admissions, to academic advising, and loves launching new international programs.
  • Lately she’s been focused on creating opportunities for volunteers and professionals to build new skills and create sustainable impact in education and youth development for the US Peace Corps and other development agencies and she knows that cross-cultural collaboration leads to innovation and success.
